Quick trip to Seattle to see gardens and textiles. On my own. I have an appointment at the Seattle Asian Art Museum where the curator will show me their Sashiko in the collection. This is happening tomorrow. After arriving I walked down from my hotel to Ancient Grounds, a Japanese Kimono Store. It was fabulous collection of garments. Here’s a photo of a Sashiko Japanese furoshiki, a wrapping cloth for gifts, stitched by hand.

The fiesta continues. We started out today to see a Catrina contest for boys and girls, plus a few stage mothers. Walked to a wonderful museum filled with ofrendas, memorials to family members, local police, animals that died. Fabulous ceramics too. Great lunch. Music everywhere. A performance by Ballet Folklorico. Love seeing decorated store fronts, houses as I walk.

We arrived on Halloween night in Tlaquepaque, the town near Guadalajara that is the center of the festivities. Ofrendas (altars), costumes, flowers and people celebrating the holiday, and alfombras( pictures created with flowers) that are beautiful. The colors are amazing.
